RotPG - DJ Mike C 10/26/2012

Riders of the Plastic Groove with guest DJ MIke C on Friday, October 26, 2012 on 88.9fm KUCI in Irvine California and world wide at www.plasticgroove.com

DJ Mike C. was first introduced to the L.A. underground in 1991, and quickly became a regular of the scene attending numerous raves, clubs and afterhours events. Instantly intrigued by the deejays behind the music, Mike purchased his first set of Technics 1200 turntables and a mixer. And the addiction began! Mike spent countless hours teaching himself to mix, and when he wasnât mixing he could be found record hunting all over Southern California. From Old Skool Techno to Progressive and Deep House, Mike was spending his every dime on building his vinyl collection.
Mikeâs journey grew quickly from spinning at local parties with friends out to the L.A. afterhours scene in 1993, where he at played at many one off events opening up for and along side of some of L.A.âs best house jocks. This led to him landing a spot as one of the resident deejays at The Beverly Room from 1994 to 1996, and also some guest appearances at The Arena in Hollywood, CA.
With the constant changing L.A. rave and club scene going in a different direction, Mike decided to take a break in 1996 to pursue his personal and professional life. Mike started playing more local mainstream bars and clubs, and eventually got married and started a family in 2001. It was at that point that Mike packed away his equipment and took an extended hiatus from spinning all together to focus exclusively on his family and contracting business. Late 2011 is when all of that changed. Mikeâs long time friend DJ One Love motivated him to unpack the turntables and start spinning again. With a new found excitement and an endless love for the music, Mike C. was back in action practicing and polishing his skills, and once again music hunting. Currently collecting and playing several genreâs, Mike C. will always be trying to find that certain sound; that certain sound that is him.

DJ Dement
DJ Dement has been in and around the LA underground scene since 1993, DJâing since 1995. From 2000 to 2010 he took a break from the scene but found himself still searching for that underground sound. A trip into Dr. Freeclouds, to buy a CD, led to starting up a vinyl collection again with a new itch to get back out into the scene. Along with his ânewâ vinyl collection he found a new love, Industrial Hardcore. Itâs a generally slower, dark and often grungy style of Gabber. While formating sets, he tends to have an idea of where to go but not have set tracks to play, with a multi subgenre of Hardcore. Hardstyle, Gabber, Industrial and Core âN Bass (also know as crossbread) Recently he has been working with Dr. Freeclouds, Audio Science, Dirty Snare and CDP with hopes to work with many more of the LA area promoters in the near future.

RotPG - Petro Uno 08/17/2012

Riders of the Plastic Grooove with guest Petro Uno on Friday, August 17, 2012.
More info at www.plasticgroove.com.
Petro Uno is a tribal house and Latin house DJ from Los Angeles, California, well known for his role as a promoter and resident DJ of the Imagination, Evolution, Bulletproof and Insomnia After Hours parties and events  that defined L.A. underground house music in the 90’s and 00’s.

At age 14, Petro was already known for his passion and dedication to dance music. In 1989 he changed his name from Sergio Espinoza to Petro One, a name that had been bestowed upon him by his friends in the So-Cal rave scene, as a testament to his love for music and the family of people it brought together as one.

Petro One started to get more involved in the scene in 1993 when he threw his first rave called “Shrooms”, and he continued to stay involved by promoting for the popular club Metropolis and the legendary after-hours “Dream”.  In 1996 Petro threw his own highly-respected after-hours called “IMAGINATION”. “IMAGINATION” ran bi-monthly from 1996-1998 and its success was recognized in XLR8R Magazine who named it “The most influential event/party in 1996”.  Since then Petro One has been promoting his own parties and providing sound and lighting to many first-class events with his company ECOSYSTEMS.

Living in the epicenter of electronic music, Petro One was exposed to some of the best DJ’s in the world. By 1997 Petro started spinning records and his inspiration was drawn from the drums, tribal beats and DJ’s such as Eric Morillo, Danny Teneglia, Steve Lawler, Hernan Canttaneo, Wally Lopez, RJ Spinher and David Hopper.  Petro quickly earned a loyal following which resulted in DJ residencies at EVOLUTION and INSOMNIA After-Hours, the longest running Saturday night underground after-hour’s party in L.A. Since then Petro has had the privilege to open for Steve Lawler, Nick Warren, Sandra Collins, Barry Jamieson, Taylor, Kazell, Mark Lewis and Frankie Bones.

In 2011, Petro One’s official DJ name was updated to Petro Uno, a name that more closely reflects his mixed Latin American identity heard in the music he plays. Petro Uno’s trade relies on a mix of groovy, seductive and scorching Latin, tribal and funky house records, which integrate southern elements in rhythms and colorful patterns in sound. Whether it is exotic vocals, organic drumming, or chunky bass lines with attitude, Petro Uno’s style of L.A. underground house music is 100% authentic and it is arranged to drive a big room sound through the deepest of underground gatherings. If you ask Petro what his music sounds like he will simply tell you, “I play music that has t

he right energy, the right attitude, a good vibe, and that is sexy and uplifting.” Focused in the live arena since 1996, Petro Uno is now looking ahead to production and playing in and out of LA.

RotPG - Jaymystic 08/10/2012

Riders of the Plastic Groove with Jaymystic on Friday, August 10, 2012.
More info at www.plasticgroove.com
Jaymystic is well known throughout the west coast of the U.S. and Canada for his deep, soulful and funky style of house. Jeremy got his musical start at age seven where piano lessons were a weekly occurrence that didn’t end until the age of eighteen when he joined the U.S.M.C. and was stationed in Los Angeles in 1990.It was here that he first heard electronic music and became a mainstay in the underground music scene as a dj and promoter.
Jeremy’s first residency was in 1996 at the fabled Zoot Suite in Portland, Oregon, where he brought his deep and soulful sound to a city that historically preferred a darker more aggressive style. The Zoot Suite soon became the premier house and downtempo destination in Portland, and from 1996 – 1999, Jeremy hosted monthly residencies for Mushroom Jazz and OM Records, alongside the likes of Mark Farina, Doc Martin, Andy Caldwell, John Howard, Derrick Carter, Victor Simonelli, Deep Dish, Daft Punk, Stacey Kid, Juan Atkins, Jeno and Dj Garth as well as countless others. During his stay in Portland, Jeremy maintained several other residencies including a monthly at the famed Suebeez Ultra Lounge and Restaurant in Vancouver, BC, The Friends and Family parties in San Francisco and  helped pioneer the supper club culture in Portland with a monthly residency at the Saucebox, which is still one of Portland’s premier destinations for a sophisticated dinning experience while enjoying the beautiful sounds of the world’s best downtempo and deep house djs.
Jeremy relocated back to Los Angeles in the 1999 where he quickly made a name for himself and landed a residence at Luna Park on Friday nights in Hollywood. The Spot at Luna Park was named the hottest Friday night destination in 2000 by The L.A. Weekly. The Spot also received accolades from LA2nite.com, Clubplanet.com, XLR8TR and URB magazine and was routinely featured on KCRW as the best electronic music Friday night in Los Angeles. Luna Park was considered THE place to be seen for young Hollywood in the early 00s. Jeremy’s talent was spotted at Luna Park and he was offered a residency at the exclusive Sunset Room, now known as the Ecco Lounge. The venue opened on Halloween of 1999, and by 2000 it was the hottest place in town on Thursday and Saturday nights. Seeing-stars.com and Variety magazine named in it the best dinner and dancing club to see stars during 2000 and 2001. Jeremy djed numerous other events while at his residences including the wrap party for “Beverly Hills 90210″ in April of 2000, the 100th episode of the TV series, “Moesha,” the wrap party for “3000 miles to Graceland”, “The Carwash” and the “Party of Five” wrap party. Other notable events were the Leonardo DiCaprio hosted MVP party for Shaquille ONeal after the Lakers won their 2000 Championship, the premier party for “The Pledge” which saw Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn & Lou Adler in attendance as well as The post-premiere party for “Snatch” which brought out Madonna & Guy Ritchie, Vinnie Jones and Benicio Del Toro.
Then in 2003 Jeremy relocated to Orange County, CA to attend Pepperdine University and pursue a degree in business management and marketing. Jeremy continued to pursue his dj career as well and has graced the decks at the legendary Focus house club as well as Sutra, The Detroit Bar, The Commonwealth Lounge, Memphis Soul Café, SOL Cucina in Newport Beach, Club Vegas, The Shark Club, The Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, the lengendary OC restuarant Scott’s @ South Coast Plaza, The Maya Resort in Long Beach, The Montage resort in Laguna Beach and The Vintage Hollywood Hush parties. He is also a regular feature attraction at the Los Angeles, Santa Ana and Fullerton Art Walks, The Lab Anti-mall, and local radio shows on KUCI & KPFK. Jeremy’s musical maturation into the downtempo, bossanova, world music, dub, acid jazz, nu funk, electro jazz, and dnb sounds has worked well for him in recent years landing him special appearances at the now closed Chat Noir Jazz and Supper Club in Costa Mesa and Chimayo in Huntington Beach as well as corporate appearances for Hurley International, Arbonne International Cosmetics, The NAMM tradeshow, and The WSA clothing and footwear trade show for numerous local sports action apparel companies.
Jeremy has recently accepted a membership invitation from The Hush Crew in LA and is now a resident dj and regular contributor to all Hush Crew affiliated events and promotions. (for more info please see hushradio.com)

RotPG - Wally Callerio & GP 07/13/2012

Riders of the Plastic Groove on Friday, July 13, 2012 with guest dj's Wally Callerio & GP.
More info at www.plasticgroove.com

Wally Callerio
Facebook page
Los Angeles, Calif.
Originally hailing from Boston, Wally Callerio (a.k.a. Poncho Warwick) made his way to the sandy beaches of Orange County as a young child and hasnʼt looked back since. An avid music lover as a young child, the transition to djʼing was a natural progression. “I donʼt really know why I got into djʼing” Callerio says, “I just loved music and listening to it. This was a way for me to not only listen but manipulate what I was hearing…I was interested in mixing 2 different sounds…”

Widely regarded as one of the premier producers and selectors in his genre, Callero continues to push the musical envelope. With over 40 original tracks and 15 remixes under his name in 2011 alone, itʼs no wonder that his label, Dufflebag Recordings continues at the musical vanguard even after 14 years. From itʼs humble beginnings with acclaimed tracks “Deju vu/Whispers” and “In Your Arms/Thisgo,” Dufflebag has since released music of both house heavyweights and up-and-coming talents alike including: Derek Dunbar, Corduroy Mavericks, Manjane, and Will Jax. Contrary to other labels, Callerioʼs philosophy and approach to creative disposition is simple: trust the artist and give them full discretion over their artform.

As a dj, Callerioʼs signature sound showcases a blend of improvisation, technical
wizardry, and a crate that spans nearly two decades. Drawing upon influences from Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest and Frank Sinatra, Wally knows where he wants his focus to be: the vocals. Callerio explains, “I want people to walk away whistling a melody or singing a vocal that sticks with them.” And if youʼre one of those who have had the opportunity to experience it firsthand, you can attest to his ability not only make your feet move, but your ears smile.

As a producer, Wally challenges and stretches the boundaries of musical construction. Experiments in phrasing and selection are some of the key ingredients that produce the creative dissonance that is signature of his sound. Wally explains, “I am trying more musical, crossover house while trying to keep that underground feel. I donʼt want my music to be limited to just 8-bar phrases. I like to experiment, break some rules and make the listener think about what they are hearing.” And with over 20 years under his belt, his diversification goes unmatched; his tracks have been known not only to be enjoyed on the dancefloor through massive sound, but also in listenerʼs homes while enjoying a lovely dinner.

2012 marks the iconic labelʼs 15-year anniversary. Whatʼs next? “For one, a number of new changes…” Callerio remarks, “ I donʼt try to predict the future of house, I just try to give it my imagination and push with my music. I try to inspire people into making and playing the right stuff.” Although these changes remain to be seen, if the past is any indicator of what to expect, one can only be sure that Callero will have a few tricks up his sleeve.

LABEL AFFILIATIONS:
1200 traxx, alluv, Beatdown, Classic Music, Electric Soul, Farris Wheel Recordings, Guesthouse, Jump Music, Juiced Music, Liberate , Life, Magnetic, Maracuja, Mezzo, Minority, Motion, My Utopia, Oomph, Panhandle, Popular, Private Parts, Robsoul, Sampled, Shaboom, Shak Digital, Sweet Mother, Twisted, Wax Records.

RotPG – C^STILLO & DAVID CHRISTOPHERE 07/06/2012

C^stillo is a record producer and a Minimal/Deep Techno and Acid DJ. Born and raised in Pomona, California, Castillo grew up listening to early 80’s New Wave and Industrial music. He developed an eclectic taste in music around the Pomona arts colony–an enclave and breeding ground for many musicians and artists alike; creating an electrifying atmosphere in the local venues such as the renowned Glass House, the Pomona Fox Theater and the now-defunct Green House.
Castillo was first exposed to the Los Angeles-based underground dance community in 1990, identifying with the urban culture and the art of Djing. This new and exhilarating scene prompted him to form close ties with likeminded individuals. In 1994, Castillo founded the Acid Groove Family, a collective of DJs, artists and writers whose main focus was to produce events that preserved the integrity of the underground community.
Today Castillo describes his style as, “Minimal acid dark tekno with the intention to take them [the dance crowd] on a deep journey to the unknown using my beats and soundscape as their guide…” and “…Work them into a cerebral frenzy”. A perfect example of his DJ work is the recent online release of his mix simply entitled RE-CONNECT. (http://soundcloud.com/alfonso-castillo-mnd/c-stillo-re-connect)
As Castillo continues to break boundaries djing his Minimal/Deep Techno and Acid sets, his true innovation has to be the launch of his new label INNERM^TTER Recordings.. His new platform to unleash his original productions on the techno fans of Los Angeles and the world..
+
David Christophere’s Electronic Music Career started back in a humid warehouse in st pete Fl Dec ’91 where he and his future Rabbit in the Moon collaborator Monk threw the first underground Rave party in Florida. The rest as they say is history.
After several singles released on their Hallucination Recordings label under the name Anarch-E, his first major success as a producer came in 1993 with the release of the Rabbit in the Moon’s”Phases of an Out of Body Experience” single on Hardkiss Records. As a remixer, he has reworked songs by artists such as Depeche Mode, Garbage, BT/Tori Amos , Sarah McLachlan , Orbital, Stone Roses, Smashing Pumpkins, Goldie, Delerium, and Paul Oakanfold.
As a live performer, his music took Rabbit in the Moon on a tour around the globe. As a DJ he’s played the biggest clubs and events in the US and parts of Asia and Europe. To say he’s a pioneer is an understatement. To say he’s one of the Godfather’s of the US Rave scene, he would say nah.. That makes him sound retired… and his set, is far from over. As he celebrates 20 years in the scene. If age is just a number, and great music is timeless. David Christophere has proven to the world that he is here to stay…

RotPG - Mojo 06/15/2012

Riders of the Plastic Groove with guest Mojo on Friday, June 15, 2012.
More info at www.plasticgroove.com
“Mojo first made an appearance on Riders of the Plastic Groove all the way back in 1993.
With a diverse taste in music, Mojo is just as comfortable spinning deep house as he is drum & bass, breaks or downtempo. A veteran of the Los Angeles electronic music scene, Mojo got his start back in 1992, at the height of the techno explosion, spinning at the legendary What? Afterhours. Shortly thereafter, he was invited to join the Insomniac roster playing at the Friday weekly as well as some of Insomniac’s first massives including Organic ’96 and the first two Nocturnal Wonderland events.

Known for its friendly and positive vibe, F.A.M.I.L.Y. started in 1994 and Mojo was one of the original residents, serving up a blend of breaks, progressive house and the occasional trip hop set. Performances at this well-loved monthly paved the way for steady bookings throughout the 90s, in Southern California and beyond.

A self-imposed hiatus in 2000 allowed Mojo to focus on furthering his education as well as to begin exploring his life-long ambition of music production. With several remixes and original releases out on Cold Busted and Journees Music, Mojo is pursuing the production side full throttle. And while production and remixing absorbs most of his musical focus, dropping eclectic mixes is still very much on the agenda.”
